Tavla or Backgammon is one of the earliest board games known to man. Its origins can be traced back approximately 5,000 years to Mesopotamian archaeological finds. It is a two-person game in which each player has fifteen pieces (checkers or men) that move between twenty-four triangles (points) based on the outcome of two dice rolls. The goal of the game is to be the first to bear off, that is, to move all fifteen checkers off the board and it belongs to the tables family, which is one of the earliest types of board games.
Backgammon
Backgammon is a game of strategy and chance (from rolling dice). While the dice may influence the outcome of a single game, the stronger player will earn a better record over a long series of games. Players must choose from a variety of alternatives for moving their checkers and anticipate possible counter-moves by the opponent with each roll of the dice.
